데오도란트 타입 (Deodorant Type)

3층에서는 〈데오도란트 타입〉을 마주합니다. 원래의 냄새를 다른 향으로 덮는 ‘데오도란트’처럼, 이 작업은 가벼운 아이소핑크 골조 위에 수천 장의 사진 조각을 덧입혀 대상을 재현하는 권오상 작가의 대표적인 사진 조각입니다. 멀리서 보면 매끈한 조각 같지만, 가까이 다가서면 사진의 절단면, 종이의 구겨짐, 미세한 어긋남이 날 것 그대로 드러납니다. 특히 작가가 사진을 붙이며 꾹꾹 누른 손길과 지문은 매끈한 이미지 아래 숨겨진 예술가의 치열한 노동을 증명합니다. 와상(누워있는 조각)으로 표현된 <데오도란트 타입>들 중 항해를 나서는 배의 이미지를 형상화한 작품도 만나보십시오. 낯선 세계를 찾아 나서는 이들의 모습이 겹쳐 보일지도 모릅니다. 흥분과 기대를 가득 안은 채 미지의 곳으로 향하던 인류의 정신은 예술가의 열정에도 고스란히 전달되어 존재하지 않는 것을 존재하게 만들려는 시도로 이어지고 있습니다.  
 
On the third floor, visitors encounter 〈Deodorant Type〉. Just as a ‘deodorant’ covers one scent with another, this work overlays thousands of photographic fragments onto a light Iso-Pink (Polyurethane foam board) frame to recreate a subject, one of Gwon Osang’s signature photo sculptures. From afar, it appears as a smooth, solid figure, but up close, the cut edges of photographs, creases in the paper, and subtle misalignments are laid bare. The artist’s pressed fingerprints and traces of touch, visible along the layered surfaces, attest to the intense effort hidden beneath its polished image. Among the Reclining Figures of 〈Deodorant Type〉, one represents a ship setting out on a voyage. In it, we may glimpse the explorers who once set sail toward unknown worlds. The human spirit, filled with anticipation and wonder for what lies beyond, resonates with the artist’s passion, a drive to bring into existence what does not yet exist.
