Flâneur, 축제를 만나다
한국관광공사의 축제미술관(Fest Art Museum)은 축제와 예술이 만나는 공간으로, 대한민국을 대표하는 현대미술 아티스트가 우리나라 고유의 지역축제를 재해석한 전시를 선보입니다.
축제미술관의 세 번째 전시인 「Flâneur, 축제를 만나다 : Flâneur Meets Festivals」에서는, 세계적인 명소와 미술관에서 채집한 이미지들을 금속판에 찍어내며 무한히 중첩된 시선을 포착해온 김홍식 작가의 ‘남원춘향제’, ‘수원화성문화제’, ‘안성맞춤남사당바우덕이축제’, ‘통영한산대첩축제‘, ‘한산모시문화제’를 주제로 한 특별 커미션 작품을 만날 수 있습니다.
김홍식 작가는 세계적인 미술관을 배경으로 명작을 바라보는 사람들의 시선, 그 사람들을 바라보는 전지적 작가의 시선, 그리고 이를 또 하나의 작품으로 바라보는 관람객들의 시선을 황금빛 프레임을 매개로 시공간을 연결시켜온 ‘플라뇌르’ 연작으로 잘 알려져 있습니다. <플라뇌르(Flâneur)>는 프랑스의 상징주의 문인인 보들레르의 ‘플라뇌르(Flaneur : 도시를 한가롭게 거닐며 산책하는 사람)’의 개념으로부터 시작되었습니다. 스스로를 ‘도시 산책자’라고 칭하는 작가는, 도시를 거닐며 지금 이 시대의 장면과 사람들의 이미지를 스테인리스 스틸 위에 새겨 넣고, 그 위에 색을 더한 판화와 회화의 복합 작업 방식인 ‘금속판 부식 회화’로 표현합니다.
작가의 대표 <플라뇌르(Flâneur)>연작이 대한민국 지역 고유의 전통과 역사에 바탕을 둔 축제를 만났습니다. 광한루를 배경으로, 아이들이 청사 초롱불을 들고 전통혼례장으로 들어갑니다. 춘향제향가를 주제로 한 ‘남원춘향제’입니다. ‘수원화성문화제’에서는 수원화성 일대의 수류정과 혜경궁 홍씨의 진찬연이 펼쳐집니다. 흥겨운 풍악이 흘러나오는 듯한 남사당 놀이 공연을 담은 ‘안성맞춤남사당바우덕이축제’도 보이네요. 충무공 이순신의 한산해전, 승전 불꽃놀이를 모티브로 한 ‘통영한산대첩축제’, 유네스코 인류무형문화유산으로 등록된 한국의 아름다운 대표 섬유 모시문화가 표현된 ‘한산모시문화제’가 작가의 스테인리스 스틸과 금빛 프레임에 담겼습니다.
작가는 이처럼 축제의 본질을 새로운 시각을 통해 접근하고 조화하여, 우리나라 고유의 전통과 역사를 이어오는 축제의 중요성을 전하고자 합니다. 대한민국의 수많은 지역 축제 중 “문화관광축제”는 문화체육관광부 및 한국관광공사에서 지정한 축제로서 지역의 특산물, 전통문화·민속, 관광자원 등 다양한 소재로 지역 관광 및 경제 발전에 이바지하였으며, 대한민국 대표 축제를 넘어 세계적인 축제로 성장과 발전을 도모하고 있습니다.

Flâneur Meets Festivals
As a space where festivals and art meet, Korea Tourism Organization’s Fest Art Museum presents exhibitions that reinterpret Korea’s unique local festivals by Korea’s representative contemporary art artists. At the third exhibition of the Fest Art Museum, 「Flâneur Meets Festivals」, You can meet special commissioned works of Kim Hong Shik who captures infinitely overlapping views by printing images collected from world-famous landmarks and art museums on metal plates centered on the themes of ‘Namwon Chunhyang Festival’, ‘Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival’, ‘Anseong Namsadang Baudeogi Festival’, ‘Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival’, and ‘Hansan Ramie Fabric Cultural Festival’.
Through her Flâneur series, Kim Hong Shik is well-known for connecting time and space with the medium of a golden frame, the gaze of people looking at masterpieces, the gaze of an omniscient artist looking at them, and the gaze of viewers looking at it as another work against the backdrop of a world-class art museum. <Flâneur> was conceived out of the concept of ‘Flâneur (a person walking leisurely in the city)’ by Baudelaire, a French symbolist writer. The artist, who calls herself an ‘city stroller’, engraves images of scenes and people of this era on stainless steel as she walks through the city, and expresses it through ‘metal plate corrosion art’, a composite work method of lithography and paintings in which colors are added on top.
The artist’s representative <Flâneur> series debuts at the festival based on the tradition and history of the Korean region. With Gwanghallu Pavilion in the backdrop, children enter the traditional wedding hall with Cheongsachorong lanterns. This is the ‘Namwon Chunhyang Festival’ with the theme of Chunhyangjehyang(ritual service ceremony of chunhyang). At the ‘Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival’, Suryujeong Pavilion around Hwaseong Fortress, Suwon and Hyegyeonggung Hong’s 60th Birthday celebration will unfold. You can also see the ‘Anseong Namsadang Baudeogi Festival’, which features performances of Namsadang plays that sound like joyful wind instrument music. The stainless steel and golden frames created by the artist showcases the ‘Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival’ to celebrate Yi Sun-sin’s Battle of Hansan with a fireworks victory celebration and Hansan Ramie Fabric Cultural Festival to communicate the beauty of Korea’s representative textile culture of ramie cloth, which is registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Accordingly, the artist approaches and harmonizes the essence of the festival through a new perspective, and aims to convey the importance of the festival that perpetuates Korea's unique tradition and history. Among the many local festivals in Korea, the “Korea’s Culture and Tourism Festivals”, which is designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, has contributed to regional tourism and economic development with various topics such as local specialties, traditional culture and folklore, and tourism resources, and pursues growth and development as a global festival beyond a local representative festival.
