한국관광공사의 축제미술관(Fest Art Museum)은 축제와 예술이 만나는 공간으로, 대한민국을 대표하는 현대 미술 아티스트가 우리나라 고유의 지역축제를 재해석한 전시를 선보입니다. 「놀이하는 인간(Homo Ludens)」展은 이번 축제미술관의 첫 번째 전시로, 오직 인간만이 할 수 있는 ‘예술’과 인간의 근원적인 놀이 행위인 ‘축제’가 만나게 된 기념비적인 의미를 담고 있습니다.
권오상 작가의 이번 커미션 작품 <축제>는 문화체육관광부 지정 대한민국 5대 명예대표축제인 ‘진주남강유등축제’, ‘김제지평선축제’, ‘화천산천어축제’, ‘안동국제탈춤축제’, ‘보령머드축제’에서 얻은 영감에서 시작되었습니다. 사진을 인화하여 조각으로 다각도로 이어 붙이는 작업인 권오상 작가의 대표 연작인 ‘데오도란트’는 단일 차원의 형태를 우리가 실재하는 세상 속 입체 형태로 구현해 냄으로써 사물과 현상을 바라보는 새로운 시각을 구축하는 작업입니다.
이에 ‘데오도란트’ 연작으로 제작된 커미션 작품 <축제>는 5대 축제의 정체성과 개성이 조화롭게 재해석되어 하나의 ‘축제’로 융합된 아름다움을 새롭게 전달합니다. 축제미술관은 지속적으로 대한민국의 문화관광축제를 소개하고 사람과 사람, 문화와 문화를 매개하는 문화예술의 허브로 도약하여 ‘축제’와 같은 즐거움을 선사하겠습니다.
Festival Meet Art.
The Fest Art Museum of the Korea Tourism Organization is a place where festival meets art. It is holding the exhibition of Korea’s representative modern artist who reinterprets the unique local festivals of Korea into art. The first exhibition of the Fest Art Museum, titled 「Homo Ludens」, contains the meaning of encounter of “art,” which can be created only by humans, and “festival” as humans’ fundamental play activity.
Artist Osang Gwon’s commissioned work titled Festival was inspired by the five most honorable festivals of Korea designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism: Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival, Gimje Horizon Festival, Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival, Andong Mask Dance Festival, and Boryeong Mud Festival. His representative work series Deodorant Type, which was created by printing taken photographs and gluing them to a sculpture in various angles, made a single-dimensional form of the world we are actually living in into three-dimensional form to provide new perspective of an object and a phenomenon.
In addition, his work <Festival>, created as part of his Deodorant Type series, was made by harmoniously reinterpreting the identity and characteristics of the five most honorable festivals of Korea, conveying new beauty wherein they are incorporated into one “festival.” The Fest Art Museum continues to introduce Korea’s charming local festivals and offer the audience festival-like pleasure by developing the museum into a hub of culture and art connecting between people and between cultures.
